Alcohol – Drug - Rehab – Recovery
Extended Care & Recovery Management Programs

Cornerstone recognizes the need for long term recovery management of addictive diseases and co-occurring disorders (dual diagnoses) and offers extended care to individuals who need additional assistance in early sobriety. In order to manage recovery successfully individuals need guidance, structure and time. Extended Care is designed with these special needs in mind. Our philosophy is to meet our residents at any stage of sobriety and to provide them with the support and structure needed to manage their recovery successfully.

We provide very flexible, fully integrated programs including Drug and Alcohol Rehab, Drug and Alcohol Treatment, Social Model and Medical Detox, Partial and Full Day Treatment, Intensive morning and evening Outpatient, Pain Management support, Dual Diagnosis and Co-occurring Disorders, Residential Rehab and Treatment, Intensive Inpatient Residential, Extended Care Program, Alternative Sentencing Programs, Recovery and Sober Living Homes.

Cornerstone can treat all chemical dependencies including, but not limited to, alcohol, narcotics (vicodin, oxycontin, norco, fentanyl, methadone, heroin, Suboxone), sedative hypnotics (Xanax, valium, Librium, ambien, sonata, lunesta, ativan, serax), methamphetamine and amphetamines (adderal and ritalin) cocaine, marijuana, PCP and the designer drugs (ecstacy, GHB, ketamine).

Cornerstone of Southern California was founded in 1984, almost 25 years ago, by Michael Stone, M.D. Dr. Stone is a Board Certified Family Physician, a diplomat of American Pain Management Society and is certified in Addiction Medicine. He believes in a hands-on approach and is totally involved in the clinical quality of our program.

Dr. Stone has treated over 60,000 addicts since he began this work in 1969. He understands addiction!

Many of our clients bring with them co-occurring problems; mental disorders such as depression, general anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social phobia, bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder, attention deficit disorder (ADD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), physical problems such as diabetes, hypertension, liver problems, gastritis, arthritis and back pain. Clients with these additional problems, have a better chance of long term recovery, when they are able to stay in an extended care program, with support.

Cornerstone specializes in Alcohol and Drug Detox and Rehab. Many of our clients have co-occurring disorders/dual diagnoses which must be treated alongside the Chemical Dependency. This is called integrated treatment and it is what we do best at Cornerstone. This treatment is continued from detox to primary care, to extended care for those with co-occurring disorders. They must learn to take their medications and follow a structured routine; 90 days is the minimum we recommend. After some time in extended care they may begin to look for work, work, volunteer or go to school.

Besides chemical dependencies there are often other co-occurring behavioral dependencies e.g. gambling, sex, food, exercise, religion and relationships which must be addressed.

Often we find the person being admitted for substance dependence has been trying to self-medicate the symptoms of a mental or physical complaint. They often get themselves very confused, chemically, and emotionally trying to fix it without help. We are able to assist the individual in finding the right psychiatrist or other medical professional to help; they can evaluate and recommend the best course of treatment for each individual. The cost of this is in addition to our Chemical Dependency program but is often covered by insurance.

Guidance: Cornerstone recognizes that recovery is a long term process and employs experienced counselors to provide guidance. The goal is to lay out a “road map” to empower our residents to navigate the road to recovery with confidence.

Structure: Cornerstone ensures a safe and structured environment to assist our residents in developing a routine and network to maintain long term recovery. The goal is to re-establish healthy and productive life patterns prior to returning home.

Time: Cornerstone provides extended care for long term recovery management. We recognize that sobriety is a lifelong process. Remembering the childhood experience of learning to ride a bike reminds us of how important practice is. If you take the training wheels off the bike without the practice, time and acquired skill, you fall. The same is true of sobriety. Our goal is to give long term extended care for sobriety management.

Cornerstone recognizes the multidimensional levels of sobriety and wants every individual to be successful in their recovery. We provide educational groups, one-on-one counseling, and activities which are all designed to promote a solid foundation for sobriety. We want to see each one of our residents leave us and rejoin their careers, their lives, their families and society, sober and confident.

Extended Care ~ Group Activities

At the heart of recovery management is activity. Whether in group sessions or in structured activities and outings, involvement is the key. In addition to counseling, a variety of educational groups designed to address the specific needs of the individual are provided. These groups consist of:

  • Introduces residents to current recovery management options.

    Family Lecture & Process Group

  • Group for family members to process lecture materials and any issues that may arise.

We provide structured activities and outings in addition to counseling and groups

Some of the social activities include:

Staff accompanied 12-step meetings.

  • Visits to the fitness center (LA Fitness).
  • Weekly outings to: Beach, Aquarium, 12-Step Barbecues, Knott’s Berry Farm

Our social activities are flexible enough to accommodate the particular needs of the residents, but still provide the necessary structure and support for successful recovery management.
